Tied with Organza fibers to give the wings that extra shimmer on the water similar to the natural. This fly taught me a lot about understanding basic entomology and fly fishing to match the hatch. The Rusty Spinner imitates the Pale Morning Dun, the Mahogany Dun and several other mayflies in their spinner stage. One day on the Madison in Montana I experienced a phenomenal rusty spinner fall. After tearing through every pattern in my box, it finally dawned on me, Pale Morning Dun hatch in the morning, Rusty Spinner fall in the evening. It was one of those "Light bulb-comes-on" moments when everything came together, and I caught fish after fish until dark!
