Snails are a staple for trout throughout the year. In some lakes, snails live in great abundance, and trout forage for them constantly. This pattern is tied in a dark forrest green to imitate the natural. I often fish this pattern as a dropper fly behind a leech or wooly bugger and strip it in slowly with short 4-6" strips. Why trout will hit a moving snail, I don't know. But this is often a very effective pattern. |
