This is a very effective fly in Davis Lake, and in many other Sierra Lakes that play host to Blood Midges. I've caught a number of fish up to 22" in Davis with this fly. I usually fish it 8-10' below an indicator along weedbeds and retrieve very slowly. I'll also fish this below a dry fly as a dropper during the Blood Midge hatch to have the best of both worlds. I generally recommend the smaller hook sizes (14-16) for most lakes other than Davis, but the Blood Midge grows big in that lake!
